One of the defendants in the “Swamp business” activist of the “Left Front” Vladimir Akimenkov will cast a pre -trial detention center. According to the prison doctors, Akimenkov has 10% of vision. But they cannot free him from custody. His disease is the congenital atrophy of the optic nerve and the rosucua Koloboma are not included in the list of diseases that prevent the detention of detention from eye diseases in government decree No. 3 (dated January 14, 2011 “On the medical examination of the suspects or accused of committing crimes”) are only included
"Eye diseases, accompanied by complete blindness." That is, while Vladimir Akimenkov is not blind, the jailers cannot present him to release. His fate can be decided by the court - in addition to the arrest, various restraint measures are prescribed - deposit, house arrest, and a notorure subscription.
The writer Lyudmila Ulitskaya wrote a letter to the chairman of the Moscow City Court. She calls her to mercy.
** The chairman of the Moscow City Court Olga Aleksandrovna Egorova
Dear Olga Alexandrovna! **

Forgive me, but this letter is not in the genre of the business document that you usually receive. Let me by the writer's right to contact you in private.
There is a background that I would like to tell you about: in 1856, in Moscow, at the expense of the police department, the chief physician of Moscow prisons Fedor Petrovich Gaaz was buried. Dr. Gaaz lived in Russia for almost fifty years, and the first decade was a doctor for the rich: he was a fashionable doctor, composed a great fortune. In 1826, he was appointed a member of the Moscow Prison Committee, and this new appointment completely changed his life.
He spent all his strength on the treatment of prisoners, made a lot to alleviate their life, his efforts were replaced by light shackles to the light, the terrible order of the prisoners at the stages - chained to the iron rod. He organized a shelter for children whose parents were in prison, and did a lot, much more. He spent all his considerable fortune to the aid of prisoners. All prison Russia prayed for him. I can’t say that he created the tradition of mercy, sympathy for prisoners, who always lived among the people, but it was he who made more people for suffering people than anyone.
In 2011, the Catholic Church began the process of Beatification of Fedor Petrovich Gaaz, this is the first step towards his recognition of the saints.
He never in his life asked any of his prisoners of his prisoner for what crime he was in jail. He treated.
During the Soviet regime - seven decades! - The tradition of a merciful attitude towards the prisoners almost disappeared. This applies to our entire society, from top to bottom. But, in spite of everything, a sense of mercy is still alive in the hearts of people. It is for this reason that I am turning to you about the Vladimir Akimenkov, which is now contained in the investigative isolator. This young man is sick with a serious eye disease, and his maintenance in prison deprives him of the possibility of treatment and exacerbates the advancing blindness. His last examination showed that he had 10% of vision. According to the recently adopted law, people who are in the last stage of the disease are commissioned. Under the same law they can be released by a blind person. But Vladimir Akimenkov has not yet been blinded, and for this reason he does not fall under this law. If you do not start immediate treatment, he, being in the pre -trial detention center, will soon blind.
On October 30, the judge of the Basmanny Court Irina Skuridina extended to Vladimir Akimenkov the term of detention until March 6, despite his complaint that he would cast a pre -trial detention center. Akimenkov’s lawyer appealed this decision of Skuridina and soon a cassation consideration of Akimenkov’s complaint will be held in the Moscow City Court.
My request is that the young man is released from the investigative insulator to court. Judicial legislation has a legal opportunity to release it for treatment either under a recognizance not to leave, or on bail. I am ready to become the guarantor of Vladimir Akimenkova, to make a deposit. I ask you to consider this opportunity as soon as possible. The Holy Doctor Gaaz had a motto: "Hurry to do good." And this is just the situation when every day the young man brings closer to blindness.
I ask you to show mercy on the proposed conditions to release Vladimir Akimenkov.
I am not talking about the circumstances that it is contained under the investigation about the presence of a crime in his actions. Different points of view may exist in this regard. I would like you to consider my proposal as a personal opportunity to show mercy.
Each of us has to go to the mortal hour, and each of us will ever appear before the last court, and mercy, only Many sins are covered with mercy. I ask you to do everything in your power so that the young man does not lose vision.
