How to make a city fairy with your own hands

Paper graffiti are extremely popular in the West, but in Russia they are just beginning to conquer the streets. Unlike stencils, they are more details and give more opportunities for the embodiment of the author’s plan. With skillful use, paper graffiti successfully integrate into the street landscape and give an incredible effect of presence: a couple of friends sitting on the sofa suddenly appear on the advertising shield, as if watching TV, a sniper is hiding behind the curb, and Yoda from Star Wars walks next to you with his girlfriend:

As part of a series of master classes, PublicPost invited Avdoty Kablukov, creating paper applications. Her new collection "City Fairies" represents girls in various images that should decorate the streets of the city.

Avdotya Kablukova: " In the Russian tradition there are goblin and brownies who inhabit forests and houses of people. The city as a habitat also gives rise to its perfumes."

For our master class, Avdotya chose a "girl with harmonica": a touching girl in a frivolous hat and with a small accordion in her hands.

Avdotya Kablukova: "She best expresses the idea of ​​vagranic romanticism. Street musicians, gastrolers, beggars, homeless people, prostitutes ... All these humiliated and offended creatures, they are like part of the environment and its product."

At first, a sketch is created. You can not limit yourself in it, it can be any drawing, because then we will process it in the graphic editor and give it the desired scale. Now the main thing is to create common features, the contours of the future graffiti. Colors can be selected after.

In order to be less noticeable on an enlarged scale, the drawing must be processed in the photo editor. To do this, we will scan our sketch and clean the uneven features and extra strokes:

Now our task is to leave only the contours that we will paint in the future. It would be possible to fill in the editor and print immediately in color, but then the identity of the drawing is lost. Therefore, we will manually paint with special markers for graffiti.

In order to simplify the printing of the drawing on the right scale, you can use a special program, for example, Ronyasoft Poster Printer . It will divide the drawing into sheets of A4 format, correctly orientes them, retaining the scale. The program automatically makes fields and compensation, indicating the edges for trimming, as well as numbers.

After printing, it is enough to dock them, cutting the edges, and glue with tape.

Now we have a drawing, but there is no color in it! In the simplest case, you can not transfer the drawing to another paper by retaining a computer print, but if you want to achieve the effect of manual drawing, you need to transfer the contours to Watman or Crafts (thin paper that can be bought in a store for artists). Watman is more difficult to stick, since its sheets are quite dense, but it is lighter than ordinary paper, and the pattern on it looks more clearly. Crafts are thin and soft, but unlike stationery paper, it dries less and holds better, being glued. Therefore, it is better not to save and transfer the drawing to a more suitable paper for graffiti. As an alternative, you can choose: millimeter, corrugated cardboard, tracing paper and ordinary newspapers. The paper will give the drawing texture and an unusual look.

You can translate the drawing in several ways. If we chose craft, then you can simply apply it and circle it with a pen or thin felt -tip pen. If we at our disposal, then we will have to put it on top on the contrary and press the drawing, circling it with a ballpoint pen:

In order for the drawing not “flowing”, it is necessary to choose either acrylic paint, which is the most stand to humidity, or use markers on alcohol or oil base. Keep in mind that in addition to adverse weather conditions, our graffiti is still waiting for a test of glue!

Markers that are sold in specialized stores are usually not afraid of water. In addition, there are tag markers (for applying “tags” -personal signatures) with a wide rectangular pen. They allow you to paint over the large areas of the picture and have an replenished container with ink. For paper graffiti and posters, they are ideal.

The main area can be shaved by markers for tags, and the remaining small details can be painted with thin markers.

For paper countertitis, the placement context is especially important. For our fairy, we will choose a secluded corner, where it would look unexpected, but as a human character is appropriate.

Avdotya Kablukova: “I try to tie graffiti to the place as much as possible so that it is clear to passers-by what is happening. But at the same time graffiti is best to have as difficult as possible so as not to become the prey of an evil janitor. In general, there may be some interesting street objects, transformer boards, benches, kiosks, construction sites. You are even walls!”

As glue, we chose a wallpaper glue - it is transparent and does not stain the drawing. Before gluing graffiti, it is better to primer the wall with glue, and also soak the paper itself. Then both surfaces are in the best way to stick together with each other. You need to pay attention to the edges - it is better to wrap them and glue them separately. And finally, go glue all over the drawing. In this case, he will stay as long as possible.
