The monstrous story of the slaves in Golyanovo reflects not even the degradation of state institutions, but their collapse.
The “Products” store, owned by the spouses Zhansul Istanbekova and Saken Muzdybaev, where slaves and their children were kept for 10 years without going outside, was repeatedly checked by the SES, without finding any violations.
Law enforcement officers often visited the store as if it were their home. “The district police officer came to us, took what he wanted for free, and left,” says driver Seilkhan Daribayev. “He wanted expensive cognac, he just pointed to the window and said: ‘Give me this cognac.’”
Freed Leila Ashirova (26 years old, 10 years in slavery) adds: “Zarina, for example, was a messenger - she brought them money from the mistress, most often 10 thousand rubles. And sometimes they just came in, took from the counters what they wanted - sausage, vodka, champagne - and left without paying."
When Leila decided to run away, driver Seilkhan took her to another police station - not to Golyanovo. “And I wrote a statement there,” she says , “and that they were beating me, and that I hadn’t seen my child for 6 months. And that Bakiya’s child was missing, and that Sonya was covered in bruises.” But Leila was still transported to the Golyanovo police station, where, according to her, the head of the police department, Nasim, having called the store owner, who swore on her children that she would release Leila, return her salary and passport, “took” Istanbekova at her word and “forgave everything.” . Leila was forced to withdraw her application.
On October 30, the operation to free slave citizens of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan is carried out by volunteers, bloggers and civil activists. 12 people were released - women, men, children.
To say that the actions of law enforcement officers still raise many questions is to say nothing. The situation would have been more adequately reflected by obscene language.
Even on the fifth day, the case had not yet been opened based on the victims’ statements. As Oleg Melnikov, an activist of the Alternative movement, told PublicPost, the first statements of victims were submitted to the Golyanovo police station on November 1; On October 2, applications were submitted to Petrovka, 38, and, later, to the Investigative Committee. However, the store owners Istanbekova and Muzdybaev are still walking free and, presumably, successfully covering their tracks.
The interrogation of those released lasted 14 hours, but no protocols were drawn up. During this time, relatives of the owners of the outlets kidnapped one of the released girls from hospital No. 54, where she was hospitalized with a suspected ulcer, took her to the station and put her on a train. She escaped from the carriage and came to the Golyanovo police station to tell where the slave owners were hiding the others. But they didn’t let her in, and if it weren’t for the activists who arrived at the scene, who knows, perhaps the girl would have been taken away by the owner again...
It is still unknown where the 14-year-old girl Asel and 5-year-old Amir are, the children of a woman who previously escaped from abuse. A statement about the missing children was accepted under pressure from the Russian Investigative Committee at the Golyanovo police station on November 2. Volunteers continue to search for children.
On the night of November 4-5, relatives of the store owner spouses tried to break into the sealed store to destroy evidence, and if it weren’t for the activists who put up patrols and called the police, rest assured, they would have succeeded.
According to Oleg Melnikov, law enforcement officers (presumably eshniki) who arrived at their call to the store on Novosibirskaya, instead of acting, began checking the activists themselves “for extremism,” filming them, inquiring about their organization, and asking many questions that sounded crazy in this situation questions.
“This story shows that there is no investigative process,” says activist Danila Gavrilov. “There is pressure from our side that people need to be released - there weren’t 12 people there, this family has several other outlets, in addition to Products.” We know the addresses of points and apartments, but the police are not interested in sending special teams there."
Activists placed some of the released people in a hostel, some of them are in the movement’s office. Activists are urgently looking for an apartment for them, collecting money, things, and food. “Profile” government organizations and departments, of course, do not take part in this.

The embassies where victims and activists applied have not yet become interested in the fate of their fellow citizens.
