Japan Display introduced a "paper-like" LCD screen

Japan Display (Sony, Tosiba and Hitachi joint venture) has created a papers-like super-thin LCD-lubricants with low energy consumption, reports the compartment with reference to Diginfo TV.

From analogues based on liquid crystals, the new panel is distinguished by the lack of backlight - the screen, like a mirror, uses light falling on it, and becomes similar, if not quite on paper, then certainly to the displays of bookriders and digital photographs using electronic ink technology.

Initially, the LCD panel shows only a monochrome picture. To make it color, special filters are applied to it. In addition, new displays have a "pixel memory." They can maintain a motionless picture on the screen and show it, almost without consuming the battery charge.

The invention was shown at the FPD International Japan 2012 exhibition in Iokogam, which ended on November 2.

However, the new panels are not devoid of flaws: for example, muffled colors and a small degree of image contrast (30: 1) caused by the absence of backlighting.

Representatives of the company recognize that the technology has not yet been finalized, but there are already ready to start the mass production of displays based on it.
