Ukraine began importing natural gas from Germany. This was announced at a briefing to journalists by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Nikolai Azarov, UNIAN reports.
According to Azarov, at the moment, among the main tasks, it is to develop a mechanism for the supply of natural gas from Europe. The prime minister noted that the import of gas from Germany has not yet accepted a "global scale." Now Ukraine is purchased through Poland about 4 million cubic meters of gas per day. Purchases are made “on a shameful basis” by the German company RWE.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said that deliveries to the country of Russian gas are disadvantageous, so the search for alternative sources of raw materials is being conducted. In September, representatives of Ukrtransgaz announced the possibility of importing gas from Europe in the amount of 5 to 20 billion cubic meters per year.
According to the contract, concluded with Gazprom in 2009, the price of gas for Ukraine in the fourth quarter of 2012 is $ 432 per thousand cubic meters. By the next year, Ukraine intends to reduce the purchase of gas from Gazprom to 27 billion cubic meters.
