In the past election, the head of the United States, residents of Colorado not only chose the new president, but also positively resolved the issue of legalization of marijuana: according to the results of the vote, it turned out that the supporters of the “grass” are slightly more than opponents (52.7% versus 47.3%). Thus, Colorado can already in the near future become the "American Holland" - the first state in the United States where it will be possible to legally acquire grass.
The amendment to the legislation actually means the emergence of the marijuana industry in the staff, writes The Denver Post Colorado. Local residents spoke out that every citizen over 21 years old had the opportunity to buy ounce of “grass” in specialized stores “for prevention”. In addition, adults will be allowed to grow at home no more than six hemp bushes. It will not be possible to smoke a stupefying plant publicly, and the first “legal marijuana store” will be opened only by the beginning of 2014.
Supporters are sure that the new business will lead to an increase in tax revenues to the budget. “For the past few years we have been working to achieve the support of the inhabitants of Colorado and stop the non -working ban on marijuana,” explained Mason Tvert, head of the legalization campaign for the “grass”.
Opponents believe that now the use of marijuana will increase sharply among children, and Colorado will become a place of pilgrimage for illegal drug dealers. In addition, there will be more drivers sitting behind the wheel in drug intoxication. At the same time, some reputable researchers do not undertake to predict the long -term consequences of its legalization. “They will be huge, and it is completely impossible to determine them exactly,” said Jonathan Kolkins, a professor at the courteous of Carnegie Mellon.
The obstacle to legalization may be federal legislation
Although the vote has already been resolved by the issue of legalization, the journalist The Denver Post (apparently the opponent of the innovation) writes about the adoption of an amendment in the subjunctive mood.
The author notes that the legalization process can still challenge the federal authorities, since the resolution of marijuana at least in one state requires amendments to federal legislation, where the implementation of hemp is directly prohibited. The draft law also does not explain how the authorities will regulate the “marijuan industry”. At the same time, the criminal punishment for storing drugs in the state will cease to be valid in two months.
The issue of legalization in Washington and Oregon is resolved in different ways
In the United States, 17 states attempted to legalize marijuana - apparently this question really worries the Americans. Two more states, in addition to Colorado, were able to achieve this issue for voting.
In Washington, according to The Seattle Times , supporters are also winning that the sale of cannabis leaves the shadow: “56%votes for”. True, this became known after the victory of the supporters of the “grass” in Colorado, which, apparently, will still become “American Holland” N1.
In Oregon, another staff where the issue of legalization of marijuana is on the agenda, the Americans voted “against,” CNN reports. In this state, as Reuters notes, the lobbyists of a new measure spent not as much money on the campaign as, for example, in Colorado, but at the same time they wanted to achieve large freedoms for lovers of "jambs".
Thus, supporters proposed to allow the purchase and sale of an unlimited number of marijuana, and also advocated the lack of obstacles to growing entire hemp plantations. In Washington, on the contrary, they supported the limitation of the number of sold substances and introduced a complete ban on the independent cultivation of plants.
