Multinskaya hydroelectric power station, a big problem for a small river

I return to the topic of my previous post ( http://stepanyukv.livejournal.com/20859.html ). And so, yesterday we returned to Barnaul and now we can say more objectively that the problem of building a hydroelectric power station is really serious. A group of specialists and I toured the entire Multa valley, talked with an initiative group of fighters for the preservation of the valley, and talked with representatives of local tourism businesses and farms. During our visit, I came across a lot of materials: films, articles in local newspapers, and comments from specialists.

All these materials only helped me to confirm the absurdity of this construction. The proposed hydroelectric power station projects are very similar to a fairy tale, this is especially noticeable when you transfer them to the locality in real life. The Multa River is a small river that almost completely freezes over in winter, as we were able to verify personally. Already now, the water level in it barely reaches 15-20 cm. And if you read the official publications of Altai Generating Company CJSC - this is the company that ordered the hydroelectric power station, it becomes generally interesting how they are going to “remove” 34.5 MW of electricity from Multa. Where will they get it?

However, as I am not knowledgeable about this, I cannot give any arguments. But there are also comments from experts:

This article is, of course, long and it will be difficult for a person who is not strong in these issues to read it, but I think even from the final conclusions of the author it is clear that this whole idea with a hydroelectric power station is very similar to dirty fraud and all possible laundering. In addition, this is the same opinion of all the local residents, who really find it difficult to fight this administrative machine. Their opinion is ignored, sending only unsubscribes to all requests and complaints. There were no public hearings on the project, despite the fact that the contractor is already carrying out its activities. We ourselves witnessed the visit of Czech specialists to Multa, who were there at the same time as us and carried out the necessary measurements. Moreover, we received information that throughout the summer all the same Czech specialists were working in the Multa Valley, even under police protection, they are probably afraid. Meanwhile, people are fighting with the administration, the customer, the contractor. They have been living on their land for centuries and their whole life is tied to the natural resources that the river provides them with. Multa. Their struggle for their rights is completely legitimate and understandable. But they have almost no instruments of their own. Communication in the village is poor and the Internet works very poorly, it is very difficult to bring all the information to the public and make the problem public. But the public is the main instrument in the modern world.

We helped the initiative group create a blog of their opposition, multozera, in which they will publish all the latest news and appeal to the public for help.
