Minimalist loft in a former church
Colleagues from the website Architector.ua talk about a frequent but interesting case of turning a church into a residential building . This did not happen in Russia, of course.
The designers from the studio LKSVDD Architects are not pioneers in the business of converting old churches into living spaces. However, their latest project God's Loft in the Dutch town of Haarlo has become an excellent example of the successful rebirth of a former religious building into modern and stylish housing.
The architects left the façade of the 1929 building in its original form, radically changing the “filling” of the building and arranging inside a bright and spacious minimalist space with bright color accents.
Such an element, for example, is the red staircase, which leads to the second level (to the bedroom and bathroom), and on the first level it separates the kitchen area from the living room and study. Also noteworthy are the hanging swings in the study area and the decorative decoration of the end wall in the living room with angels called “The Gates of Heaven.”
The transformations also affected the garden area, thanks to which already from the street you can catch a hint of the original contents of the old building. So, snow-white sheep made of plywood sheets “walk” near the house, and a dozen of the same white birdhouses are placed on the fence. The garden seating area is made from a reclaimed shipping container and features a green roof.
