Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to return to discussing the bill on Treason, he announced this at the first meeting of the Presidential Council on Human Rights in a renewed composition.
“Let’s go back again and think about it, there shouldn’t be an expanded interpretation here - what is treason,” Putin said. “I’m ready to come back again and take a closer look (the bill - approx.).”
The State Duma adopted the law on treason, which strengthens the protection of state secrets, toughens penalties for their disclosure and introduces criminal liability for illegally obtaining information constituting a state secret. Human rights activists called this law unconstitutional.
