Detention of security forces in Georgia: nine officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are accused of abduction, damage to property and fraud

In Georgia, the detention of security forces continues. Last night, nine were captured, including former, high-ranking employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including officials from the constitutional security department and a special operational department,news-group reports. In particular, the head of the constitutional security department, Levan Kardawa, appointed to this post in July this year, as well as his subordinate, George Kavlashvili.

The main prosecutor's office of the detention of officials was confirmed, but it was noted that the official statement on this subject would be made a little later. So far, it is only known that the police are suspected of excess of official powers, the destruction of other people's property, illegal deprivation of liberty and the use of modern technological means to obtain information about the personal life of citizens.

This, in particular, is about the following incidents. The first is connected with the allegedly taking place of the guard of the current Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili - Besik Surmawa. He disappeared in September this year on the eve of the parliamentary elections. Later, Surmawa’s video message was widespread on the television channels, in which he stated that he made secret records of telephone conversations of the opposition leaders, including the current Minister of the Interior Irakli Garibashvili, in which they discuss each other using swear expressions.

The opposition said to this that incriminating records are a fake. After the victory of the opposition in the October 1 elections, Surmav himself appeared again and said that he was abducted and made his television circulation under pressure.

The second accusation against officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - in the destruction of someone else's property - concerns the incident with the cargo owned by Ivanishvili, "The Group Card", which was spoiled on the customs terminal. Drown also accuse the detained police officers.

According to the lawyer of the accused, their clients gave detailed answers to all the questions of the investigation and they are currently transferred to the preliminary detention insulator. Defenders also stated that charges have not yet been charged to employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Justice of Georgia Teya Tsulukiani said that along with other crimes, "all the detainees were charged with using modern technological means to obtain information about the personal life of citizens, including commercial and financial, " Interfax reports.

The detention of officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs became the second loud affair of the Georgian prosecutor’s office after the parliamentary elections, after which the former opposition took control of the new government and law enforcement agencies, the Georgia Times points out. The premiere of the country became the leader of the Georgian Dream that won the parliamentary elections of the Operational Party, billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, the Ministry of Internal Affairs was headed by the former head of his fund, and the General Prosecutor's Office - the former lawyer Ivanishvili.

Earlier, the detention touched on high-ranking persons from the structures of the Ministry of Defense: on the night of November 7, law enforcement agencies were detained by the chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces Georgy Kalandadze, the commander of the 4th Infantry Brigade Zurab Shamatawa and ex-minister of defense and internal affairs Bacho Ahalai. He was charged with exceeding official powers, and Akhalai was also accused of illegal deprivation of freedom and torture.

Representatives of the former ruling party of Georgia "Unified National Movement", which is currently in the minority and turned into opposition, called the detention of Akhalai, Kalandadze and Shamatava "political persecutions."
