Eldar Ryazanov is 85!

Thanks to Oleg Mityaev for introducing me to GOD. At a creative evening at the Eldar film club, he introduced me to METRU. I remember I was timid and, sweating with fear and excitement, stammered words of admiration and dared to hand him my book.

A couple of weeks later I was shocked by his call and words of approval of my literary debut. The GENIUS read it carefully and said: “If I were younger, I would make a film.” Eldar Aleksandrovich Ryazanov is 85. For how many generations of our people he made amazingly bright, warm films in their souls of kindness, nobility, mercy, sadness, love and wisdom. Who hasn’t had a joyful heart flutter from “The Irony of Fate” with its magical, unique New Year’s flair and “Carnival Night”.

How poignant and touching are Yuri Detochkin, Andrei Myagkov, Evgeniy Leonov in the role of the Russian intellectual klutz in “Beware of the Car”, “Garage”, “Say a Word for the Poor Hussar”.

How charmingly genuine and accurate in psychological nuances are the scoundrels played by Nikita Mikhalkov - the boorish and impudent conductor from "Station for Two", or the sophisticated "aristocrat" Merzlyaev, brilliantly played by Oleg Basilashvili in the role of the secret adviser from the same "Gussar".

The music of Andrei Petrov, Mikael Tariverdiev and other composers has always been surprisingly accurately and inextricably woven into the fabric of his films.
