In 2009, the Republic of Mordovia excited a high-profile case in which criminal episodes that occurred back in the 90s appeared, including the murder of leaders of local criminal groups and "authoritative" businessmen. The defendant of this case was Yuri Shorchev, a master of sports of international chess class (1798th place in the world in an individual rating). From the indictment, it follows that in the mid-90s he was part of the organized group of Khimmash-Borisovsky. Now Shorchev is accused of the fact that he killed the former leader of these "Borisov" Andrei Borisov.

The accusations are based on the testimony of a certain Yuri Sorokin, whom the investigation calls the “full -time killer” of the group. True, having agreed to cooperation with the investigation, Sorokin soon put his hands directly in the pre -trial detention center, and now, unfortunately, to find out the veracity of his testimony.

Further - more. In the case, the version arose that "the members of the organized crime group" worked "together, but did not know each other." Here's how I wrote about this in June 2012, with reference to sources in the organs, the Mordovia newspaper: “As in other groups, a strict hierarchy existed here, a healthy lifestyle was promoted. Particular attention was paid to the conspiracy, it was so serious that the brigades -“ Pentars ” - was prohibited from communicating with each other.”

Such matters in which "no one knew anyone", recently in Russia, appears more and more often. For example, in Yekaterinburg, the case of a veteran of the Airborne Forces of Colonel Leonid Khabarov is now listening in court. He is accused of preparing an armed rebellion, only most of the witnesses of the prosecution heard in court, with the colonel, never communicated and did not even see him ...

However, the most “murderous” fact that calls the version of the investigation in the Shorchev case is torture that was applied to the chess player shortly after his arrest.

Yuri Shorchev denied his guilt from the very beginning, he denies the accusations now. The reputation that had grown up on Mordovian streets, which at one time was no better than Kazan, the athlete has tremendous willpower. Even when the Witness Sorokin appeared in the case, who made a deal with the investigation, he stood his ground: "I am innocent." In Mordovia, employees did not have physical impact on the disgraced shkhmatist businessman, so he was soon transferred to the room that functions in the investigative insulator (PFRSI) and located already in the village of Varnavino of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

This Nizhny Novgorod colony of the Maximum District of the UZ-62/7, in which Shorchev found himself, has long been in human rights circles the reputation of the “torture”-they are referred to there are especially rebellious and innocent prisoners to “promotion with operational methods”.

On May 29, 2009, people in masks, who presented the operational police officers, broke into a single camera in Barnavino in a single camera. In the complaint of lawyer Lyudmila Ayvar, the events that took place then are described as follows:

"Unknown men entered the camera, pulled out Yuri Shorchev into the colony territory and was beaten with special cruelty, torture and humiliations. They threatened that if he did not sign the indications of the charges, then violence would be applied further."

Photo materials provided by Shorchev’s protection confirm these facts. On the forearms, legs and torso of hematoma and bruising, on the head of the abrasions. But the worst thing is not even this, but the traces of burns left by cigarettes and electric shocks.

Yuri Shorchev himself says: "In total, torture lasted about three months with different intensity. With particular cruelty, I was tortured on May 29, 2009 from 21:00 to 5:00 a.m. the next day (stretching, burns, beating) ... In one of the punishers in the mask, I recognized the Saransky opera assigned to my case."

After each “torture session”, during these terrible three months, “good” employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs came to the chess player and crushed morally, threatened that in case of refusal to “admit” it would be bad not only to himself, but also by his family.

In addition to the testimony of Shorchev himself, who was subjected to such sadistic torture in Barnavino, there is also the conclusion of the surgeon of the Barnavinsky Central District Hospital, which conducted an examination. “As a result of Shorchev’s inspection, the following bodily injuries were detected: a concussion, multiple bruises, abrasions of the face, neck, body, upper and lower extremities, multiple hematomas and traces of burns of various parts of the body,” the medical conclusion says.

In addition, according to the lawyer Lyudmila Aivar , the accused Andrei Dmitriev, who was also contained in the Barnian colony, also had psychological and physical impact.

"Persons serving a sentence in this colony took Dmitriev from the camera without a lawyer and threatened physical reprisal," said Aivar to journalists of the newspaper "News Time". - He added some drugs from which he did not understand what was happening to him, lost control of himself, did not realize his actions and did not lead them. The wife of Yuri Shorchev, Sofia, after she found out how her husband was tortured, wrote a number of appeals to social activists and deputies. Including the Interregional Public Organization "Committee against torture".

“My husband was beaten and tortured by unknown persons, as a result of which he has bodily injuries in the form of abrasions, bruises, bruises and burns on the head, body, arms and legs,” the desperate woman wrote. “All this happens so that he wrote a confession and give confessions in committing crimes that could not commit.

However, contrary to all the evidence of lawyers, medical documents, the testimony of the most concluded response of the Committee against torture, we discouraged you: “We send you a notification of the termination of the audit and refusal to legal assistance and conduct a public investigation ... since there were no sufficient data confirming the arguments of your complaint ...”

It is clear when law enforcement officers say that the under investigation "fell out of bed in a dream," but the fact that the "committee against torture" in the person of the inspector of the investigation department Mr. Zakharov did not find sufficient data to conduct a public investigation is not fitting in his head.

So it is not surprising that in the case of Yuri Shorchev, none of the law enforcement officers were not just punished, but did not subject to disciplinary sanction. In the initiation of criminal cases in all of the above and documented facts, the facts were denied. The decision on the refusal states: "Shorchev to the question of what happened, explained that he had fallen from the sleeping place."

Maybe the bruises of the fall can be theoretically explained, but what to do with burns from cigarettes and from shock blows? Subsequently, by the way, it was explained how these burns appeared on the body of the prisoner: it turns out that there were burns ... from the battery! True, on the street at the time of receiving "burns from the battery" was the end of May - early June. However, these circumstances were not at all embarrassed by the investigator who made a decision to refuse to initiate proceedings on the fact of torture.

Meanwhile, the appeal to the Strasbourg Court on the fact of violations of human rights in the interests of Yuri Shorchev was already submitted by the famous Moscow lawyer Dmitry Agranovsky. Several more Moscow lawyers also entered into the case of the protection of Shorchev in Russian courts. The process promises to be "hot."

"In the case of Yuri Shorchev, certain episodes related to the 90s are really reanimated by the result. The last of them was dated to 2001. There is a very definite impression, even among strangers who are not familiar with the case that all these episodes on Shorchev are simply “hung”.

I prepared a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights regarding this case. Yuri has been sitting at the investigation, before the trial, for more than three years, which even according to our realities today - out of the ordinary case. I do not remember an example when a person was held for so long for the investigation on any charges. Now the acquaintance of the defense with the case file is just beginning.

It is still unknown when to wait for the consideration of our complaint in the ECHR. There is no political persecution here, to attract the increased attention of the European Court, but in connection with this long period of waiting for the trial there may well give it priority.

We specifically filed a complaint at the investigation stage - if she does not give her priority in the ECHR and the case is delayed before the sentencing by the Russian court, we will attach this sentence to the application. Then the complaint itself will already be in line not at the end of the list and is updated due to the sentence, which means that they will pay attention to it and consider it as soon as possible. ”
