An acid leak was discovered on the territory of a garage cooperative in the village of Koryakovo, Kostroma Region.
On Saturday, November 17, all operational services were brought to the village. Emergency Situations Ministry employees cordoned off the danger zone.
“When examining the scene of the incident, police officers found nine containers, each of which contained at least a ton of dangerous liquid. According to forensic experts, the liquid turned out to be so-called “regia vodka” - a mixture of nitric and hydrochloric acids, which poses a real threat to humans and environment," Interfax reports from the information and public relations department of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to eyewitnesses, the owner of the containers began storing containers in the spring, but then died suddenly. Over time, the active contents and temperature changes damaged the shell. “One of the barrels was deformed and the liquid spilled onto the ground. According to preliminary data, this is a waste composition that is used in the production of jewelry or electronic products,” the K1News.Ru portal reports, citing a representative of the environmental prosecutor’s office.
The issue of acid disposal is currently being addressed. The dangerous place will be under 24-hour police protection.
