Schools in the Stavropol Territory will introduce their own school uniforms by December 20, adhering to the classic model.
“We act within the framework of the law on education. It is not entirely correct to talk about a single uniform. For schoolchildren, the decree of the regional government, which was adopted on October 31, recommended an approximate form, which stipulates the basic conditions - types of clothing, prohibitions of a certain nature. Based on this approximate provisions, each school makes changes to its charter and establishes its own uniform before December 20,” regional Education Minister Irina Kuvaldina told the Interfax agency on Monday.
According to her, all schoolchildren will not look exactly the same.
“The decree stipulates, in particular, that clothes should be of a classic design - for girls without a low waist, without cleavage and open navels,” noted the agency’s interlocutor.
The issue of introducing school uniforms in educational institutions of the region was discussed at a meeting of the Public Council under the Ministry of Education of the region.
In October, after a conflict erupted in the Stavropol region caused by the decision of the administration of one of the schools to prohibit Muslim students from going to classes in hijabs , Vladimir Putin suggested that the regions think about returning a uniform school uniform.
“You can think about this at the regional, and perhaps at the municipal level. About introducing a uniform uniform. Not necessarily like in the Soviet Union - one for the whole country, but in the regions it is quite possible to introduce such a uniform,” - said the president.
The governor of Stavropol, Valery Zerenkov, subsequently gave instructions to immediately begin the development of a regional regulatory legal act that would regulate the requirements for student clothing. “There should be uniform rules in one region,” he noted.
Minister of Education and Science Dmitry Livanov also stated that his department supports the introduction of a unified school uniform. “We don’t just support, but we will actively promote this project,” Livanov said.
The head of Rospotrebnadzor Gennady Onishchenko recently spoke in support of the introduction of a unified school uniform. He called school uniforms a means of preventing dermatitis, colds and a number of other diseases.
