Prizes were distributed to Runet

Runet leaders were given awards for various achievements. Even the “black lists” of Roskomnadzor could not dampen the festive mood of the laureates.

This year the national “Runet Prize” was awarded in six main categories: electronic state in the information society; science and education; culture, media and mass communications 2.0; economics, business and investment; health, entertainment and recreation; innovation and technology. In addition, winners were determined in four special categories: startup navigator of the year; safe RuNet; sports and “.RF and beyond”. The laureates of these nominations were determined by several hundred experts from the professional community. The winners of the “People's Vote” on the Internet were separately awarded in three categories: “Internet Project”, “Runet Community” and “Runet Game”.

The ceremony was opened by the Minister of Communications and Mass Communications Nikolai Nikiforov, who called the Internet “the driver of development of many sectors of the Russian economy,” and then read out a greeting from Dmitry Medvedev .

“The Internet helps culture fight for its consumers,” in turn, the head of Rospechat, Mikhail Seslavinsky, praised Runet, presenting figurines to the laureates of the nomination “Culture, Media and Mass Communications 2.0 in the Information Society” - the websites of the RI Novosti news agency and the TV channel “Russia-1” , and the Internet cinema Ivi.ru. RIA Novosti this year turned out to be winners in two more categories: “Health, entertainment and recreation” for the project “Social Navigator” and “Science and Education” for the reconstruction of the events of the Patriotic War of 1812 “1812: War and Peace”. Digital October took two statuettes - for the scientific and educational project Knowledge stream and the online and offline platform for startups.

One of the most interesting nominations was “Electronic State and Information Society,” where there were four winners at once: the electronic diary for schools “Dnevnik.ru”, Rostelecom (the “Web Elections 2012” project), the portal for people with hearing impairments “Country of the Deaf” and the website Presidential Council for Economic Modernization and Information Development of Russia. The award in the “Safe Runet” category went to Directorate “K” of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, which investigates crimes on the Internet.

About “blacklists”

Some laureates, who expressed dissatisfaction with increased control over the Internet, added a fly in the ointment to the stream of eulogies and words of gratitude. Thus, RIA Novosti editor-in-chief Svetlana Mironyuk softly wished the audience “changes only for the better”: “In the hall, I saw many regulators on whom the fate, life, and health of the RuNet depend. Over the past year, there have been more changes in regulation and normative creativity related to our activities than in the last 20 years, so I want to wish myself and you that these changes will only be for the better.”

But the director of Wikimedia Russia, Vladimir Medeyko, spoke directly in his speech about the threat hanging over the WIkipedia encyclopedia “due to legal casuistry.” In a conversation with PublicPost, he noted that due to vague wording in the law, there is a threat of restricting access to the resource due to the fault of incompetent officials.

As an example, Medeyko cited the lawsuit filed by the Oryol prosecutor’s office, which demanded that access to the Wikipedia article “Russian swearing” be restricted. The lawsuit contains many technical errors, including an incorrect domain name, Medeyko noted. However, according to the director of Wikimedia Russia, the court will most likely side with the prosecutor’s office and oblige providers to limit access to the resource. Wikipedia fears that the ban could become federal: “The danger is very real. Our encyclopedia is compiled by users based on strict rules, not “like or dislike,” and we do not have the technological ability to delete certain pages at the whim of officials. We have been creating knowledge for 12 years, and now we are forced to prove in courts that we are not camels.”

However, the festive mood of the guests chatting with each other over a glass of champagne was not overshadowed by the reminder of censorship. Moreover, most of the presented projects have not yet encountered problems.
