Internet filtering in Russia

Hundreds of resources have already been added to the Register, and not only with pornographic content. At the request of the Federal Drug Control Service, for example, a subcultural Internet encyclopedia got there, and calls to close access to either Wikipedia or YouTube (there is already a precedent in Chechnya!), although they still remain empty threats, have ceased to surprise.

Media director of SUP Media Anton Nosik believes that, in fact, another form of censorship has been added under the banner of caring for children. Child pornography is already subject to criminal prosecution, but there are no such legal concepts in the world as “drug propaganda” or “suicide promotion”; in addition, after the introduction of the law, Yandex shares fell, Mr. Nosik believes.

State Duma deputy Ilya Ponomarev was one of those who initiated the ill-fated amendments to the Federal Law “On the Protection of Children from Information Harmful to Their Health and Development.” He believes that no one in the State Duma understands anything on the Internet, but the amendments themselves are correct.

For reference. In paragraph 2 of Article 5 it is written: “Information prohibited for distribution among children includes information:

1) encouraging children to commit actions that pose a threat to their life and (or) health, including causing harm to their health, suicide;

2) capable of causing in children a desire to use narcotic drugs, psychotropic and (or) intoxicating substances, tobacco products, alcoholic and alcohol-containing products, beer and drinks made on its basis, take part in gambling, engage in prostitution, vagrancy or begging;

3) substantiating or justifying the admissibility of violence and (or) cruelty or encouraging violent actions towards people or animals, except for the cases provided for by this Federal Law;

4) denying family values ​​and creating disrespect for parents and (or) other family members;

5) justifying illegal behavior;

6) containing obscene language;

7) containing information of a pornographic nature."

Anton Nosik believes that the list of banned books may then include the works of Leo Tolstoy “Anna Karenina” (suicide), Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn” (vagrancy), etc., etc. The same goes for literature, There will be no films, songs, paintings left, only the bear on the United Russia emblem.

Meanwhile, in response to my question, Ilya Ponomarev confirmed that the law was adopted as usual, that is, without conducting research and assessing the risks of its enforcement. I understand that puppets voting by voice from behind the Kremlin wall can do this, but why do reasonable deputies act this way?
