Farber case

On November 28, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation will hold a cassation hearing on a complaint against the sentence of a rural teacher, Ilya Farber, whose case became scandalous due to an extremely cruel sentence of eight years in prison. According to the media and human rights activists, many procedural violations were committed during the consideration of the case. According to The New Times, the well-known lawyer Viktor Parshutkin, who won many trials with the participation of a jury, joined the case.

Tomorrow, in the Supreme Court, lawyer Viktor Parshutkin intends to seek a review of the decision of the Tver Regional Court against Ilya Farber.

On August 10, 2012, a rural teacher was sentenced to eight years in prison in a strict regime colony and a fine of 3.2 million rubles on charges of extorting a bribe.

Moscow artist Ilya Farber moved to the village of Moshenka in the Tver region in 2010 and got a job as an art teacher at a local school. The following year, by agreement with the administration of Moshenka, he took up the reconstruction of the village club - he developed the project and actually supervised the work. A conflict with a subcontractor, Gorstroy-1 LLC (Farber believed that the estimates were inflated and the work deadlines were not met) led to the fact that the general director of this company, Yuri Gorokhov, accused a rural teacher of extorting a bribe. Ilya Farber was detained by officers of the Federal Security Service for the Tver region in Gorokhov's office (according to the prosecution, while transferring a bribe).

The Farber case was tried by jury. Farber's defense believes that the trial was held with procedural violations - for example, in his parting word, the judge advised the jury not to pay attention to the words of the defendant, and Ilya Farber himself was not even allowed to announce the verdict.
