Russia has the first trading dispute in the WTO: the European Union is dissatisfied with the ban on live livestock imports

The European Union appealed to the WTO with complaints of a number of protectionist measures taken by the Russian authorities after the country's entry into an international trade organization, some of them violate the global legislation in the field of trade, Reuters reported.

The European Union, in particular, remained dissatisfied with the ban on the import of live livestock from the EU and the fee for the disposal of imported cars. “There are other spheres, regarding which the European Union has questions or objections to Russia regarding how conscientiously it fulfills its duties as one of the WTO members,” the European diplomat said.

The delegation of Japan also expressed its concern, emphasizing that the recycling collection "leads to discrimination of foreign car manufacturers." This opinion was shared by the American diplomat.

The representative of Russia, in turn, asked to formulate claims in writing in order to submit a written response to them later, ITAR-TASS said one of the diplomats who took part in the meeting.

The Russian authorities have recently demonstrated readiness for disputes within the WTO: so that "all members of the secondary school violate the rules ... are judged by each other, and this is normal," Vice-Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said in an interview with Kommersant .

The most serious of the claims presented on November 26 consider the Russian Federation refusal to lift the ban on the import of pigs from the EU, introduced by her on March 20.

The problem of imported recycling fees is more subtle, since there is no official complaint yet, the publication indicates. The Ministry of Industry and Trade reported that the Russian Federation continues with the EU "negotiations and consultations" regarding the recycling fee. “We are ready to defend our position, including in the Judicial ATU body,” the department said. "In the Russian Federation, a consistent policy of environmental protection is pursued. At the same time, the disposal of cars is assigned to manufacturers.

Discussion at the WTO Council for Trading goods is the usual step from which the discussion of the claim to the country begins, the next step is the opening of the official discussion of the claims, the formation of the "panel", and made it a decision to violate the WTO rules. So far, the Russian side is waiting for the protocol execution of claims, then to submit a written response to them.

At the end of October, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on issues of the Russian Federation in the WTO, criticizing Russia's actions in the field of foreign trade. The claims of European states, in addition to the above, also concerned the requirements to stop the production and sale of counterfeit products.

Parliamentarians also bothered preferences for Russian public procurement companies and seasonal import duties for some types of sugar. On November 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised to adapt the Russian economy and companies to the WTO requirements.
