Facebook in Tajikistan blocked "at the request of citizens"

Access to the social network Facebook in Tajikistan was blocked at the request of the population, reports the local editorial office of Radio Liberty .

The head of the Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan, Beg Zukhurov, said that access to the social network Facebook across the country was blocked at the request of the population. According to him, “the best representatives of the public” - “academicians, doctors and important public figures” - addressed him with such an appeal; he “received many phone calls from disgruntled citizens complaining about the abominations and slander” that take place on the site.

On Monday it became known that, by order of the Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan, all Internet providers in the country blocked access to the social network Facebook. Then the authorities did not give any reasons for their decision.

In 2012, this was the second case of Facebook being blocked by the decision of the Tajik authorities. Access to the social network was closed from March 3 to March 9 (according to other sources - until March 11) “due to the need that arose.” The Communications Service subsequently attributed Facebook's closure to technical problems.
