Mayakovsky will be repaired and left

Today information appeared on the Internet that in February next year the Mayakovsky Museum will be closed for two years for reconstruction. The author of the news, among other things, claims that she saw with her own eyes an order signed by the head of the Department of Culture of the Moscow government, Sergei Kapkov, on the re-exposition of the museum. And that supposedly after reconstruction the Mayakovsky Museum will cease to be a museum of the poet, but will turn into a museum of futurism.

PublicPost found out what will actually happen to the Mayakovsky Museum. The museum itself claims that it needs repairs, but they have not heard of any reconstruction. And the Department of Culture is already preparing to remove the exhibition.

Nadezhda Morozova, deputy director of the Mayakovsky Museum for science, is confused in her testimony and, when asked whether the museum will be closed for reconstruction, answers negatively:

“Well, no, we don’t even have a project. Where did you get this information from? In general, it can neither be confirmed nor refuted. The museum needs renovation, but there is no project yet. When all the projects are ready to close it, then they will probably close. But for now I can’t confirm anything.

— Is there an order for re-exposition signed by Kapkov?

I'm the museum's director of science, and I haven't seen it. It's all a duck."

The Moscow Department of Culture initially refused to give an immediate comment, promising to issue an official press release with “complete and objective information” by tomorrow. But then they finally said that the museum would indeed be closed, the exhibition would be re-exhibited, the exhibits would be transported to other museums and repositories, and they planned to open the updated museum for the 120th anniversary of Vladimir Mayakovsky in 2013.

“The Moscow cultural program actually plans to repair the engineering structures of the Mayakovsky Museum, which cannot be carried out without temporarily removing the most valuable exhibits - personal belongings, for example. Several temporary exhibitions will be organized at other Moscow venues, which we will report on in tomorrow’s press -release. After the major repairs are completed, all this will come back and will function.

Next year the 120th anniversary of Mayakovsky will be celebrated, and the task has been set to complete the reconstruction by this time, but you understand that there are all sorts of force majeure that do not always depend on us. The museum will not be reformatted: it will remain the same as Mayakovsky’s museum.”
