Caucasian prisoners were beaten again in a Kalmyk colony

In Kalmyk correctional colony No. 1, a new batch of prisoners was beaten, relatives of the convicts report. There were no such incidents, they say at the Kalmykia Federal Penitentiary Service.

On December 4, 20 people were brought to the colony and all were severely beaten, a relative of one of the prisoners told PublicPost on condition of anonymity: “The group arrived from the North Caucasus republics: from North Ossetia, from Karachay-Cherkessia and from Adygea. These people were not brought into the territory of the colony. They were driven into a pre-trial detention center, which is located 300 meters from the colony, and they were beaten.”

These are not the first complaints about beatings of prisoners in Kalmyk colony No. 1. In early November, prisoners complained that colony staff beat up a group of 60 people, and prisoners cut their wrists in protest.

According to a prisoner in IK-1, through beatings, the colony staff are trying to break character: “People are not just beaten, but their human dignity is humiliated. When they beat Ossetian prisoners, prisoner Alan Dzhusoev swallowed 13 nails, and then cut his own throat. the hospital was taken away. Some set themselves on fire."

The most active strikers from IK-1 are being transported to other Russian colonies, a prisoner told PublisPost: “The head of the colony ordered the most violent ones to be isolated from the rest, and several were taken away from here altogether. I know that six or seven people were taken away. The same Dzhusoev was taken away immediately.”

Alan’s father, Khasan Dzhusoev, confirmed the prisoner’s words: “My son is now in Pyatigorsk, in a transit prison. I called the head of IK-1, Badme Murgaev, and wanted to know why. He said that my son has open tuberculosis and he was taken for treatment. Where he will be taken, I don’t know, Murgaev didn’t talk about this. Alan himself told me on the phone that he’s not just suffering from tuberculosis, he’s not sick at all. Most likely, he’s being transported from the colony because of protests against the beatings.”

There were no beatings of prisoners in the colony, Bayrta Boskhomdzhieva, head of the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Kalmykia, told PublicPost: “I contacted the leadership of IK-1 regarding these statements by relatives of prisoners. They confirmed that yesterday, December 4, a new round of 19 convicts arrived But there was no physical action or moral pressure against them."
