Writer Vasily Belov has died.

He will be buried in his native village of Timonikha in the Vologda region on December 7. President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the writer’s family and friends.

Vasily Belov is one of the countryside writers; his first story was published in the early 60s. He became famous after the publication of the story “A Habitual Business” and the series “Carpenter’s Stories”.

In 1981 he was awarded the USSR State Prize, in 2003 - the Russian State Prize in the field of literature and art. In 2008, Belov was awarded the Order of Honor "for his great contribution to the development of domestic literature and many years of creative activity."
