Previously, Pechersky Gallery, founded a little less than two years ago by collector and curator Marina Pecherskaya, was located in the very center of Moscow, halfway from the Central Department Store to the Federation Council, and was called V-Art. After the first exhibition experiments, it seemed that as soon as the funds invested in the project ran out, the gallery would immediately close, but the owner decided not to give up and changed solo swimming to team play. The gallery was renamed and then relocated to Winzavod into the vacant premises from which the Paperworks gallery had previously moved out, not without scandal. We started at the new location with an exhibition by Berlin-based artist Alexei Kostroma, who is remembered for the installations “UNO” and “Knot”, which were shown at Garage. These are deliberately spectacular works: the first was a glowing ball of plastic bags, the second was a swirling, swaying plastic intestine. The artist deals with the theme of hypertrophied ephemerality and airiness. For example, it depicts huge butterfly wings. His favorite materials are polyethylene, feathers and eggshells. It is the latter that can be seen at the exhibition “The Invisible World” at the Pechersky Gallery. Fragile assemblages are hidden under a thick layer of glass; such a screen usually hides expensive paintings. Understandable precautions symbolically cross out this very fragility, but they look organic within the walls of the gallery, which is a kind of shell with pretension within the walls of a large cultural and office center.
