This was stated by representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia Vladimir Markin, as reported by RIA Novosti . “It was very strange to hear comments that not only insulted the investigators of the Russian Investigative Committee, but also undermined the authority of all law enforcement agencies in the country,” he noted.

On Friday, the head of the Russian government, Dmitry Medvedev, after a live broadcast during which he gave interviews to representatives of five television channels, called the investigators who came early in the morning of December 7 to search the documentary director’s home “goats.” At the same time, earlier during the interview, the prime minister commented on the early visit of investigators more restrainedly, suggesting that there were “some reasons” for this.

The search at Kostomarov’s place was carried out as part of the investigation into the riots on May 6, 2012 on Moscow’s Bolotnaya Square. The events at Bolotnaya are reflected in the materials of the documentary project "Term", on which Kostomarov is working together with journalist Alexei Pivovarov. It was Pivovarov who raised the topic of searches during an interview with the head of government.

Kostomarov was brought in as a witness in the case of the riots, and Medvedev, in a conversation with journalists, suggested that no charges would be brought against the director. He noted that investigators lack “legal culture” and attention to “elementary rules of community life.”

For his part, Markin emphasized that the investigators behaved emphatically correctly, and Kostomarov did not receive any complaints about their actions. The commentary of the representative of the Investigative Committee was posted on the official website of the department, but the material was soon removed from there.
