A large number of violations were found in the activities of the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who issued licenses for the storage of weapons. 150 police officers were brought to justice, Gazeta.ru reports with reference to the Russian Prosecutor General's Office.
“It was established that the police did not conduct periodic checks on the safety and use of weapons in possession of citizens, licenses for their acquisition, permits for storage and carrying were issued in a number of cases without providing data on the absence of a criminal record, diseases that prevent the possession of weapons, and verification of storage conditions,” – the department said in a statement.
“Often, previously convicted persons, as well as those with mental disorders and drug addiction, became owners of weapons and private security guards, in connection with which the prosecutors sent statements of claim to the courts to annul the relevant documents,” the prosecutor’s office clarifies.
