The number of victims of the collapse of a building under construction in Taganrog, Rostov Region, has increased to 13 people, reports the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Rostov Region.

“As a result of the collapse of a building under construction in Taganrog, 13 people were rescued and 5 were killed,” the report notes.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, search and rescue operations in the emergency zone have now been completed.

Work to clear the rubble was carried out with the involvement of special equipment from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, housing and communal services and other organizations, and the necessary medical care was provided to those injured in the collapse, the department notes.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, more than 684 cubic meters of building debris were removed from the emergency site.

373 people, 85 pieces of equipment and 10 canine teams were involved in search and rescue operations and clearing the rubble.

Psychologists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations are working with relatives of the dead and injured. As the department notes, since the emergency, 28 people have required psychological assistance.

According to the press service of the city administration, citing the Minister of Health of the Rostov Region Tatyana Bykovskaya, three victims of the building collapse are in serious condition. A total of 12 victims are in the emergency hospital.

In March of this year they were given permission to build a 3-story building. The foreman and a number of responsible persons have already been detained in connection with the collapse. According to the Investigative Committee, the contractor of the company that built the building was also detained. “The investigation detained the contractor and foreman who carried out the construction of the building as suspects, seized construction documents, interrogations and other necessary investigative actions are being carried out,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement .
