The court in Taganrog arrested the contractor and foreman suspected of violating safety rules during construction, as a result of which five workers under the collapsed house were killed , Interfax reports with reference to the RF IC.

"At the request of the investigation in relation to the contractor and the foreman that carried out the construction of this house, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention," the SKR said in a statement.

It notes that during the investigation, "it will be given the assessment of the possible involvement in this crime of persons who carried out the design of the building, the issuance of the necessary permits and control of the work."

In Taganrog, at the intersection of Chekhov Street and Ukrainian Lane, a three -story building fell on December 13. As a result, five workers died, another 14 people were injured.

At the time of the emergency, 30 people worked on the construction of a four -story building on Chekhov Street according to the latest data. 17 workers turned out to be buried under the rubble of the collapsed building. Three of them died on the spot, two more in the hospital.

According to media reports, a collapse occurred when a concrete floor was filled on the last floor under construction.

A criminal case has been instituted on this fact under Art. 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of the safety rules of construction work, resulting in the death of two or more persons).

The house was built by a local entrepreneur who hired workers under fixed -term contracts for the sale of apartments in it. The day before it was reported that it was not yet possible to find a businessman. According to preliminary data, the reason for the collapse was a violation of construction technology.
