The millionth resident was born in Voronezh on Monday, the press center of the governor and the regional government told Interfax.
“The boy was born in the regional perinatal center to Voronezh resident Svetlana Lopyreva at 12:10. The weight of the newborn is 3,350 kg, height 54 cm. Mother and child feel good,” said a representative of the press center.
The boy was born and became the fourth child in the family, he noted.
The head of the region, Alexei Gordeev, on Monday at a meeting of the regional government congratulated everyone on the birth of the millionth resident.
“For us, these are not only new prospects, but also new responsibility. All together we will have to make Voronezh a city of growing opportunities and successful people. I am sure that a wonderful future awaits the baby in our city,” he said.
Thus, Voronezh became the 15th million-plus city in Russia: at the moment, more than a million people live in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Perm, Kazan, Ufa, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Volgograd and Rostov-on-Don.
