The state prosecution asks for 6 years in prison for the former head of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Orenburg Region, accused of fraud.
The state prosecution asks that a real sentence be assigned to the former Minister of Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade of the Orenburg Region, Andrei Efremov, accused of embezzlement of budget funds.
“The state prosecution asked the court to find Efremov guilty of three crimes classified under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed by an organized group of persons by prior conspiracy, using official position on an especially large scale),” the regional prosecutor’s office reports.
The indictment in the criminal case against the ex-official was announced on Tuesday in the Leninsky District Court of Orenburg by the regional prosecutor Igor Tkachev.
“The prosecutor directed the court to take into account the nature and degree of public danger of the crimes committed by the defendant and asked to sentence him to imprisonment for a term of 6 years in a general regime colony with a fine of 900 thousand rubles,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
I. Tkachev also asked to deprive A. Efremov of the right to hold public positions in the category of “managers”, senior and main positions in the municipal service, as well as leadership positions in commercial organizations and enterprises for a period of three years.
“In addition, the prosecutor asked to satisfy the civil claim filed within the criminal case and to recover from Efremov in favor of the regional budget 3 million 201 thousand 500 rubles of material damage caused to him,” the report notes.
According to the prosecutor's office, in the near future the defendant's defense attorney will make a final speech, who, in turn, will address the court with the last word.
The court will then retire to the deliberation room to render a verdict. The verdict in the case is scheduled for January 2013.
Earlier it was reported that A. Efremov was accused of six episodes of theft of budget funds allocated under the federal program to support entrepreneurship. During the preliminary investigation, he did not admit his guilt.
Initially, A. Efremov was given a preventive measure in the form of detention, but in January 2012 he was released on bail in the amount of 3 million rubles.
Earlier, the court announced sentences to three of his accomplices: the former executive director of the non-profit organization "Guarantee Fund for Small and Medium Enterprises of the Orenburg Region", a local entrepreneur and the former head of the entrepreneurship support department of the Ministry of Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade of the region.
All three entered into a pre-trial cooperation agreement. One of them received a real sentence, the other two received suspended sentences.
