On Thursday, December 20, at 18:00, Memorial (Karetny Ryad, 5/10) will host a round table “ Article 282: Save cannot be cancelled. Where to put a comma? ".
Article 282 of the Criminal Code (inciting hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity) has become the subject of public discussions that have gone far beyond its composition. How clear is article 282? Should public incitement to violence be prosecuted? Are statements degrading human dignity subject to criminal prohibition? Is it possible to unequivocally and unambiguously define the composition of calls for violence and discrimination in the law, and is such a law even needed? What requirements should be put forward to the state, speaking about those who are currently convicted under Article 282 of the Criminal Code?
Experts will discuss these and other questions:
Henry Reznik (President of the Moscow Bar Association);
Alexander Verkhovsky (Director of the Information and Analytical Center "Sova"; via Skype);
Dmitry Agranovsky (Director of the Moscow Bar Association Liptser, Stavitskaya and Partners);
Natalia Kholmogorova (head of the human rights center of the Russian Public Movement);
Alexander Daniel (Member of the Board of the International Society “Memorial”) and others.
