Angara region: protests in the Siberian hinterland

“We won’t let nature be destroyed!”, “For the rich - profit, for the poor - loss”, “Remove harmful production!”, “No to the stone crusher! Give the village clean production!” — with these slogans, residents of the village of Bystraya, Slyudyansky district, went out on a picket against the construction of a stone crushing complex near their settlement. The protest took place next to a local cafe. According to the organizers of the action, between 70 and 80 people gathered for the rally. As Zhanna Kazantseva, a member of the initiative group, told BG Irkutsk, nine people spoke during the picket, after which residents began discussing the problem. "People are determined!" - said Zhanna Kazantseva.

As a result of the protest, the Bystrians unanimously adopted a resolution. The first point in the document states that it is necessary to send to the mayor of the Slyudyansky district Andrey Dolzhikov a picket resolution about the disagreement of the residents of the village of Bystraya with the construction of a stone crushing complex. In addition, during the picket, people decided to contact the Governor of the Irkutsk Region Sergei Eroshchenko, the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the region Oleg Kravchuk, as well as Rosprirodnadzor and the West Baikal Interdistrict Prosecutor's Office with a demand to "conduct an environmental assessment of the planned construction of a stone crushing complex in terms of alleged harmful emissions into the environment and their negative impact on public health." This point is also in the resolution.

Let me remind you that the protest action was supported by the local branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. According to Zhanna Kazantseva, the first secretary of the Slyudyansky district committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Albina Gordeeva was also present at the picket.
