There were three petitions in total: in two of them the authors asked to include deputies who voted for the anti -Sirot law in the Magnitsky List. The authors of the third asked to impose the same sanctions against Vladimir Putin, if he signed the law. The White House is obliged to consider the petition if it is signed by more than 25 thousand people. Three petitions in total scored 75 196 signatures. The publication of petitions caused a storm of indignation among the deputies who were indicated in them: they said that the response to the American authorities would be “symmetrical” if they were included in the “Magnitsky list”.

The White House, as expected, answered a petition that gained the necessary number of signatures: "The United States share your anxiety about the law adopted by the Russian Duma." The administration added its thoughts that children should be able to grow in loving families and that their fate should not depend on political nuances, and recalled that the United States still support the development of civil society in Russia. The letter ends with a link to the statement of the US ambassador in Moscow Michael McFol, where the ambassador also expresses its concern. Not a word was said about the inclusion of deputies and Putin in the "list of Magnitsky".

Meanwhile, another petition from Russia appeared on the White House website. It calls for the Coordination Council of the opposition because it "ineffectively consumes the money of American taxpayers." At the time of writing, she collected 687 signatures. The petition was initiated by a certain Mark Feigin F. (the surnames of the signing petitions on the White House website are reduced to the first letter, this means that the words "Mark Feigin" were introduced into the "name" field). Lawyer Mark Feigin told PublicPost that he did not sign this petition: “This is all a lie! Of course, I didn’t sign any petitions, I am a supporter of the Russian opposition coordination council. I see a complete idiocy in the initiative of his support from the American taxpayer - this is prohibited by this.
