RGTEU students build barricades

Students of the Moscow branch of RGTEU, who have been on strike for 7 days against the reorganization of the university, are building barricades. They are trying to prevent the entry into the university on the morning of December 26 of the new rector, who the day before was appointed vice-rector of the Plekhanov Academy Andrei Shklyaev.

The protest action by RGTEU students began on the night of December 18-19. On December 20, the students called off the strike after the State Duma decided to consider the issue of recognizing the university as ineffective. However, already on the evening of December 20, an order to merge RGTEU with the Plekhanov Russian Academy of Economics appeared on the website of the Ministry of Education. On December 25, the university was visited by Deputy Minister of Education Alexander Klimov, who read out to students the order on the removal of Sergei Baburin from the post of rector and the appointment of Andrei Shklyarov. Students consider the rector's removal illegal, since he is on sick leave and was not familiar with the order.
