The "film train" has hit the road
25 young filmmakers from 15 countries will spend a whole month on the road: they set off on a train journey from Moscow to Lake Baikal.
The project participants, who arrived in Moscow at the very beginning of the year, met each other for the first time at an evening at the House of Cinema, where the producers of “KinoTrain” Guillaume Protsenko and Tatyana Petrik staged a screening of the film “The Train is on the Way” (dir. Chris Marker) about the classic documentary filmmaker Alexandra Medvedkin . In the 1930s, the director traveled around the USSR on a specially equipped train, stopping in cities, factories and construction sites, and filmed propaganda short films, which were edited on site and shown in the cinema car to everyone. The creators of "Kinotrain" call their project a continuation of Medvedkin's work.
After the screening, film expert Nikolai Izvolov spoke in more detail about the works of Alexander Medvedkin and discussed the upcoming journey with the project participants.
On the evening of January 4, the Kinotrain team set off from the Leningradsky station. There are 10,000 kilometers ahead.

Moscow - January 4.
Murmansk - January 6.
St. Petersburg - January 10.
Kotlas - January 14.
Tomsk - January 19.
Irkutsk - January 23.
The "Cinema Train" will arrive in Moscow on February 1 at the Yaroslavl Station. Participants will bring back finished films from their trip.
The premiere of short films about Russia, shot during the month of the KinoTrain's journey, will take place on February 6 at the DOC Documentary Film Center's " Open Screening " project, and then presenter Katerina Gordeeva and the film authors will invite viewers to a discussion: "Russia through the eyes of foreigners."
