The sons of IBS President Anatoly Karachinsky, Roman and Ivan, have nothing to do with the story of the detention of businessman Sergei Polonsky in Cambodia, Vedomosti reported, citing a source familiar with the situation.

“The sons of Anatoly Karachinsky, Roman and Ivan, as well as his other close relatives, have nothing to do with this incident,” the publication’s interlocutor said. Earlier, information was disseminated in the media that along with Polonsky, Russians Karachinsky and Baglay were detained by the police on December 29.

On January 5, a court in the Cambodian city of Sihanoukville extended the arrest of Russian businessman Sergei Polonsky for an indefinite period. “According to the law, you can arrest a person in Cambodia for 48 hours, then the arrest can be extended at the request of the prosecutor. The arrest has already been extended indefinitely - it could be 48 hours, it could be 3 months, or six months,” the Russian consul told Interfax in Cambodia Pavel Seskanov.

Polonsky's company Potok reported that the entrepreneur could be charged with hooliganism. The Sihanoukville prosecutor, in turn, said that the Russians were charged with intentional violence and unlawful imprisonment.

According to the version reported by Polonsky’s company , he was allegedly detained after a noisy New Year’s celebration on one of the uninhabited islands of Cambodia. The military, whose base was located next door, decided to check the Russians for documents that Polonsky did not have. During the conversation, a skirmish occurred, as a result of which the entrepreneur and his two friends were detained.

According to the version outlined in the Cambodian newspaper Phnom Penh Post, Polonsky, Karachinsky and Baglay were arrested on charges of using violence against local sailors and illegal imprisonment. According to the publication, on December 29, six local sailors picked up three Russians off the island of Koh Rong, from where they intended to return to the mainland. According to the victims, Polonsky allegedly threatened the captain of the ship with a knife, after which he locked him in the cabin. He allegedly forced some crew members to jump into the water.
