Film actor Gerard Depardieu, who received a Russian passport from Vladimir Putin today in Sochi, immediately after a short conversation with the president, went to the capital of Mordovia, Saransk, where he was presented with the keys to a new apartment and Saransk registration, Interfax reports.

At the airport, Depardieu was greeted with folk songs and pancakes. The actor showed the crowd his Russian passport. The actor began his visit to Mordovia with a tour of local attractions. He visited the local history museum and plans to visit the only monument to Emelyan Pugachev in Russia.

Previously, the actor has repeatedly spoken about his ardent desire to play the leader of a peasant uprising, notes Russia 1.

It is not yet known whether Gerard Depardieu will agree to live in Mordovia.
