Four victims of a gas explosion in Novokuznetsk are still in intensive care
Four people injured in the explosion of a gas cylinder in a residential building in Novokuznetsk (Kemerovo region) are in stable and serious condition, a representative of city hospital No. 1 told the Interfax-Siberia agency.
According to the agency's interlocutor, two adults and two children aged seven and eleven are still in intensive care, all of them are receiving the necessary treatment.
In turn, the press service of the Novokuznetsk city administration told the agency that the greatest concern of doctors is the condition of two men (one of whom brought the gas cylinder) who received severe burns.
“They have a large area of burns, and doctors are fighting for their survival. There are still eight people in three hospitals in Novokuznetsk, the condition of the victims is of varying severity, they are receiving the most prompt assistance,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
Meanwhile, a source close to the investigation told the agency that at present the bodies of the explosion victims - a woman and a child - have not yet been identified. According to him, the visual identification procedure by relatives will take place on Wednesday. However, the bodies were burned, and the possibility of an examination cannot be ruled out, the source added.
As reported, on the morning of January 7, a propane tank exploded on the seventh floor of a nine-story building in the Ordzhonikidze district of Novokuznetsk, resulting in a fire. The victims of the explosion were a woman and a four-year-old child, eight more people, including three children aged 7 and 11, were injured. Three people were hospitalized in serious condition. Two neighboring apartments were also damaged.
By order of the head of the region, a large-scale inspection of gasified buildings, as well as the identification of unauthorized gas cylinders, began in the region.
Investigative authorities in the Kemerovo region opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence of two or more persons). Authorities say the propane tank was brought into the home by a 50-year-old man who was also injured in the explosion.
