Academy Award nominees announced

A strong film season is marked by an extended shortlist for the Best Film of the Year nomination. Nine films were nominated for the award. The powerful tragedy "Love" by Michael Haneke, the epigraph to which could be Tyutchev's lines " Oh you, last love! / You are both bliss and hopelessness ." The costumed western "Django Unchained" by Quentin Tarantino, has already been accused by some of his compatriots of impropriety. In particular, director Spike Lee considered the film "an insult to his ancestors".

But the biopic "Lincoln" by Steven Spielberg, leading in the Oscar race (the film is presented in 12 nominations), glorifies the moment of the abolition of slavery in America. The film is dedicated to the sixteenth President of the United States, who played a pivotal role in ending the Civil War and introducing the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution to abolish slavery.

Among the nominees there are two films that literally recreate historical events: Ben Affleck 's Operation Argo, about saving Americans from the revolution-ridden Tehran, and Kathryn Bigelow's Target Number One, about the elimination of Osama bin Laden. 11 nominations secured the exotic colorful journey of a boy with a tiger - "Life of Pi" by Ang Lee. Other contenders for the coveted statuette are David Russell's comedy-drama My Boyfriend is a Crazy about an underdog trying to get back on his feet, and Sundance's low-budget Grand Prix-winning drama Ben Zeitlin 's Beasts of the Wild South about surviving in a world that's falling apart. The list of leaders is completed by the musical film adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel of the same name Les Misérables by Tom Hooper.

Talent has no age. This is confirmed by the Best Dramatic Actress nomination, in which 85-year-old Emmanuelle Riva ( Love ) competes with nine-year-old Quenzane Wallis ( Beasts of the Wild South ). Surprisingly, Riva's partner Jean-Louis Trintignant, who played an outstanding role in the film "Love", is not among the contenders for the best male role. However, this nomination presents really strong acting work by Joaquin Phoenix ( The Master ), Denzel Washington ( The Crew ), Daniel Day Lewis ( Lincoln ).

It is curious that Katherine Bigelow, who created one of the most interesting films of the year, Target Number One, was not included in the group of nominees for best director, where all men are named: Steven Spielberg, David Russell, Ang Lee, Michael Haneke and Ben Zeitlin.

The Best Non-English Language Film category includes Love, Royal Affairs , -Tiki , The War Witch and No. Kon Russian "White Tiger" Karen Shakhnazarov missed.
