The husband of murdered Irina Chersky was arrested

The husband of missing journalist Irina Chersky was arrested by decision of the Golovinsky Court of Moscow. Alexey Kabanov, one of the founders of the OGI Project, is accused of murdering his wife.

“The court granted the investigation’s request to select a preventive measure in the form of detention against Alexey Kabanov,” Sergei Stukalov, official representative of the capital’s ICR department, told Interfax. Stukalov also told the agency that Kabanov would be required to undergo a psychiatric examination. “As part of the investigation, Alexey Kabanov will soon be assigned a psychological and psychiatric examination in order to establish the degree of his sanity,” Stukalov added.

Kabanov himself, according to reports on the website of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, “during the interrogation, he confessed, saying that he committed the crime on the night of January 3. During the conflict, he strangled his wife. After that, in order to hide traces of the crime, his wife’s body was dismembered and an attempt was made to conceal it."

Let us recall that on the morning of January 12, the Moscow police and investigators of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation announced that they had solved the brutal murder of journalist Irina Cherski (Kabanova) in Moscow.

“It was established that after a quarrel with his wife, the man strangled her in his apartment at 1st Novopodmoskovny Lane, 4, after which he dismembered the body with meat knives in the bathroom,” said an employee of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Moscow. According to the employee, the man took the body parts out of the apartment and hid them in the trunk of a Skoda car. “The arms, legs and head of a woman were found in the trunk of the car. Material evidence and sincere confessions convicted the man of committing a crime,” the press service notes. Based on this fact, a criminal case was initiated under Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder).

Irina Cherska, according to her husband, left home on January 3 after a family quarrel. The next day, Alexey Kabanov published a post on the social network Facebook asking for information about her whereabouts. After a week of unsuccessful searches, investigators searched the couple's apartment. Parts of a human body were found in Kabanov's car.

39-year-old Irina Cherska was a popular blogger and raised three children. Facebook users and volunteers participated in the search for her.
