In Yakutia, wolf shooting begins

In Yakutia, due to the invasion of wolves, from today, a three-month shooting of these predators begins. Today in the republic there are more than 3.5 thousand wolves. According to scientists, their optimal number should not exceed 500 individuals, the press service of the Government of Yakutia reports.

A week ago, as reported , the head of the republic introduced an emergency regime due to wolves.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Sakha, in 2012 the wolves killed more than 300 horses and 16 thousand home deer. Reindeer herders have damaged about 150 million rubles, ITAR-TASS reports.

According to experts, one of the main reasons for the attack of wolves on pets was the reduction in the feed resource of predators - a hare -white hare in the main habitats of wolf flocks. As a result of this, mass migration of wolves from mountain-taiga regions to the central regions of the republic, as well as at the deer pastry of Aldan, Kobyaysky, Momsky and Tompon uluses.

Brigades of hunters are heading for the shooting of wolves today. By decision of the Government of Yakutia, they will be equipped with fuel, spare parts and ammunition.

A monetary reward has been established for each wolf, for the best hunters, three large bonuses of about one million rubles were determined.

In 2012, hunters of the republic exterminated more than 700 predators.
