Festival of Lights in Berlin? No, it’s just that Berlin activists, artists and poets decided to creatively support Maria Alekhina before the new court hearing on January 16, and also to express their protest to the whole world regarding the Pussy Riot case.
On the night of January 15-16, Berlin artist Julia Strauss and photographer Jörg Pache held a performance called Free Maria Alyokhina.
For several hours, they projected images and slogans for the freedom of Pussy Riot onto the 300-meter Berlin TV tower.
In the morning, in front of the Russian Embassy on Unter den Linden, Berlin Decembrists, activists from the Occupy movement, Green Party deputy Volker Beck, who traditionally supports Russian LGBT activists, as well as activists from Russia Yaroslav Nikitenko and Anastasia Rybachenko held a solidarity rally for the freedom of Maria Alekhina, Pussy Riot and all political prisoners.
For two hours, demonstrators read Mary's poems in Russian, German and English.
At the end of the picket, activists left a message in front of the embassy windows.
