Hydrometeorological center: there will be no Epiphany frosts in Kalmykia

Instead of a frosty Epiphany, Kalmykia will experience a slight thaw, the Republican Hydrometeorological Center told Interfax on Friday.

According to the weather forecaster on duty, positive air temperatures of up to plus 5 degrees are expected on the territory of the republic over the weekend; at night the thermometer will also be above zero degrees.

“This is not an absolute maximum, we did not take any samples, but higher air temperatures were previously recorded in the republic,” the agency’s interlocutor noted.

Meanwhile, as the Elista city hall told the agency, on Saturday morning a traditional water blessing ceremony will take place at the city pond, after which everyone will be able to swim in the prepared ice-hole.

“There will also be tents for changing clothes and parking areas for vehicles. For the safety of swimmers, rescuers and law enforcement officers will be on duty on the shore,” added the representative of the mayor’s office.
