Musician Yuri Bashmet supported the ban on Americans adopting Russian children.

“If sick children themselves found the telephone numbers of childless American families on the Internet, called them and said: “I don’t have parents, I’m sick, take me in and cure me” - that would be one thing. But when there are intermediaries who make money a lot of money to send these children abroad is completely different,” Bashmet said on Saturday at a briefing dedicated to his upcoming 60th birthday.

He expressed the conviction that the United States should not interfere in Russian affairs, and expressed solidarity with President Vladimir Putin: “I myself do not consider America my main boss, and this is why I adore Putin, that he knows how to say: “We are not America, we are Russia, and we don’t need American bosses. Perhaps there are some lists there - I don’t know, but everything that happened with Magnitsky is ours, Russian. If it happened in France, it would be French. But not American at all."
