Russian businessman Sergei Polonsky has been transferred from a prison cell to an isolation ward after he burned all his personal belongings in his cell as a sign of protest, an informed source in Cambodia told Interfax.

“Polonsky, while in his cell, burned all his personal belongings, after which the prison administration decided to transfer him to the isolation ward. This behavior of the Russian is explained by the fact that he is still in custody, despite the fact that the statement of claim against him was withdrawn,” the agency’s interlocutor noted.

Before the New Year in Cambodia, police detained Russian businessman Sergei Polonsky and two other people - Alexander Karachinsky and Konstantin Baglay - on suspicion of attacking local sailors during a boat trip. The injured Cambodians told police that the holidaymakers locked them in their cabin at knifepoint and then forced them to jump overboard. Polonsky was arrested indefinitely .

Subsequently, it became known that the victims withdrew their statements about causing them bodily harm and illegal imprisonment, and there were reports that the Russians would be released from the Cambodian prison, but after interrogation by the court, the prisoners were sent back to their cells .
