A Czech won the sled dog race in Karelia

In the village of Pryazha, 40 km from Petrozavodsk, the international sled dog racing competition “On the Sampo Land” took place.

Representative of the Czech Republic Pavel Pfeiffer became the absolute winner and received a Lada Granta car and two thousand dollars as a prize. He ran in a sled with eight dogs and showed the best result after two days of competition - 3 hours 28 minutes. Following him came Russian Alexander Stolyarov. In third place is his father Nikolai Stolyarov, both of them are from the Karelian village of Kudama.

The leader in the “Six Dog Team” discipline was Indre Daujotine from Latvia. Elena Potselueva from the village of Kudama took silver in the competition, Alena Lavrova from the Moscow region took third place.

More than 50 teams from different regions of Russia and foreign countries took part in the competition.

The name of the race is associated with the famous Karelian-Finnish poetic epic "Kalevala", which was based on Karelian-Finnish folk epic songs, which were collected and processed by the Finnish linguist and doctor Elias Lönnrot in the 18th century. "Sampo" in Karelian-Finnish mythology is a miracle object with magical powers, which is a source of happiness, prosperity and abundance.
