
The police will do everything to suppress the rally planned shares of doghunters, RIA Novosti reports citing the representative of the press service of the capital's head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Earlier, information appeared on the Internet that in the evening of January 25, a large -scale raid on homeless dogs will be held in Moscow. Doghanganters are going to pay special attention to sleeping areas of the city.
"The Moscow police have information about the impending action. In this regard, the necessary preventive measures will be taken and operational measures aimed at suppressing the facts of abuse of animals," the agency’s interlocutor said.
On October 28, a rally was held in the Novopushkinsky Square against doghanters. From 500 to a thousand people took part in the action. The organizer of the rally was the public movement "Green Land". Several dozen protesters came with dogs, despite the warning of the organizers. On the eve of social networks, information appeared that poison would be scattered in the Novopushkinsky square.
The rally participants demanded that the guilty in the mass killings of dogs in the city and close the sites promoting animals are held accountable. In particular, the audience called on law enforcement agencies to find dogs responsible for the poisoning of the 50th anniversary of October in September. Earlier, on the fact of the incident, a criminal case was opened under Article 245 of the Criminal Code (cruelty to animals), but none of the suspects was detained yet.
At the rally, it was decided to propose to the authorities to adopt a “law on the protection of animals”, prescribing criminal liability in the new law and the terms of imprisonment for the torture and murder of animals. The participants also proposed to introduce more rigid control of the turnover of the drugs with which dogkhanters poison animals.
Doghanters call themselves fighters with homeless dogs. The main method they practice is the scattering on the streets of poisoned baits. According to animal defenders, over the past year in Moscow, more than a thousand dogs were killed as a result of the activities of doghunters, most of which are home. The actions of the doghanters are dangerous not only for animals, but also for people. In particular, people can suffer from the toxic substances that doghunters scatter in places of dog walking.
In September last year, the Moscow City Hall held an action against the plans of the Department of Housing and Communal Services and improvement to catch homeless dogs and transfer to a shelter in the Yaroslavl region. The participants in the action considered that new owners for dogs could not be found there, and volunteers will not be able to help care for animals.
In January 2011, the initiative group of animal defenders appealed to law enforcement agencies and to the deputies of the Moscow City Duma in the fact of shooting dogs in the territory adjacent to the Kyiv station. Then more than 60 dogs were destroyed, which have long lived in this area. Many dogs were sterilized and even chipped.
Earlier, the scandal in connection with the destruction of dogs erupted in St. Petersburg. Homeless animals were exterminated in three areas of the city. This was due to the elimination of the focus of African swine plague. Animal defenders held several promotions. They tried to prevent the work of the sanitary and epidemiological service, engaged in the catch of homeless animals.
