Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov agreed to sell an investors to a Polyus Gold International Ltd. (PGIL) - the mother company of the largest Russian gold miner "Pole Gold", reports Bloomberg .
Unnamed sources of the agency claim that the ONEXIM group belonging to Prokhorov and other PGIL investors applied to the British Commission on Mergers and Assignments for permission to a transaction. The proposal is also considered by another large shareholder of PGIL, the head of the NAFTA-Moscow group Suleiman Kerimov. Presumably, the decision on this issue will be made by the commission at the end of the current month.
Mikhail Prokhorov owns 37.8% of PGIL shares. For them, a businessman can help up to $ 3.6 billion. Suleiman Kerimov owns 40.2% of PGIL securities.
According to Bloomberg, in the case of buying a package of Prokhorov, a group of investors will divide it among themselves so as not to make a mandatory proposal to redeem the Polyus Gold minority shareholders. The consultant of this transaction is the JPMorgan Bank, and VTB will deal with its financing.
Against the backdrop of rumors about the possible sale of Prokhorov’s package at the auction in London, the Polyus Gold shares increased by the middle of the day more than 5%.
The first information that Mikhail Prokhorov prepared for the sale of his share in PGIL Suleiman Kerimov appeared in September last year. Then there was information that Kerimov agreed with the VTB to provide a loan for this transaction. The amount of the transaction was not called then. Soon, the NAFTA-Moscow group has refuted information about the purchase of Polyus Gold.
