The UN is investigating the death of civilians from drones

The UN began an investigation of the powers of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in a number of countries of the world. Ben Emmerson, human rights activist and expert on issues related to the fight against terror will lead the investigation, Newsru Israel reports.

Emmerson said that the expanded use of UAVs for point liquidations drops a serious challenge to the international law system. Human rights activists have long been protesting against the use of UAVs in hostilities, since as a result of shelling from drones, civilians often die. Many of them also complain of the opacity of the American military program.

The investigation will be carried out in relation to 25 cases of UAV in Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan and Palestine. In most cases, the American military managed the drones, however, Great Britain and Israel also use this technology, RIA Novosti notes. According to Newsru Israel, Great Britain agreed to cooperate with the UN in this matter, but Israel and the USA have not yet commented on a new investigation.

According to the expert, "the use of UAVs in hot spots is a reality that the world should fight." At the end of October last year, Ekmermsky urged to consider the death of civilians from the actions of the UAV as a war crime.

According to the British non -profit organization "Bureau of Investigative Journalism", as a result of air experts made by drones in Pakistan, from 2.6 thousand to 3.4 thousand people died, of which from 470 to 890 were civilians.

The US government previously said that it is compliance with legal procedures during the decision -making on the use of UAVs, but did not betray their publicity.
