The winner of the competition for a new Moscow metro map, which was held by the capital's mayor's office, was Artemy Lebedev's studio - its map received 38.4% of the votes of Internet users. Second and third places went to designer Ilya Birman and RIA Novosti,Kommersant reports.
In January, an online vote was held on the website of the Moscow Department of Transport to select a new metro map - it will replace the old scheme, which has been in use since September 2012. Muscovites were asked to choose the best of three schemes that reached the finals (initially 35 works were submitted to the competition).
The winner of the online voting was the scheme of Artemy Lebedev's design studio (art director - Artemy Lebedev, designers - Egor Zhgun and Ludwig Bystronovsky, technical designer - Maxim Milko).
Second place went to the metro map by designer Ilya Birman.
Third place went to the RIA Novosti design center (art director - Ilya Ruderman, designers - Anton Mizinov and Vasily Shikhachevsky, cartographer - Alexey Vysokosov).
Now the winning scheme will be finalized based on the comments of officials, the Department of Transport explained to the publication. Only after this, approximately in March, the new map will appear in carriages and on station platforms. Then it will be improved to intermodal (it will include various transport systems of the city, for example, a map of bus and train routes), after which the scheme will appear in metro lobbies.
