The Commission of the Ministry of Health approved the liquidation of the Yaroslavl maternity hospitals

The Commission of the Ministry of Health has completed the verification of the legality of the closure of maternity hospitals in seven districts of the Yaroslavl region and approved the course of optimizing the regional state of obstetric care, portal 76.ru.

The commission, which, in addition to officials, included representatives of the Federal State Institution "Ivanovo Research Institute of Maternity and Childhood named after V.N. Gorodkov" and representative of the Public Council of the Ministry of Health, president of the public organization "Promotion" by Lilia Mateeva, worked in the region for three days. During this time, members of the commission visited several Central District Hospital, where they closed the obstetric beds, as well as in the maternity hospitals of Rybinsk, Rostov, Uglich. The inspectors came to the conclusion that it would be unsafe to give birth in closed medical institutions due to a lack of equipment and low qualification of the medical staff.

“We analyzed the indicators of maternal and infant mortality in those seven areas where obstetric beds were closed,” said Oleg Filippov, deputy director of the medical care department and the state of obstetric care of the Ministry of Health. In 2011, the Borisoglebsky district was equal to 6.8, and in 2012 - 21.4.

At the end of 2012, the Yaroslavl authorities decided to close seven maternity departments (26 obstetric beds) due to unprofitability. This initiative caused the protests of local women who said they did not want to go to give birth to a perinatal center for 100 kilometers on old cars on bad roads. In protest against the elimination of obstetric beds, in December last year , pregnant villages captured the hospital of the village of Borisoglebsky .

Promotions in support of women in labor were held in Yaroslavl and in Moscow - near the building of the Ministry of Health. Due to the wide public resonance, the Ministry of Health sent a commission to the region to verify the decision of local authorities.
